Mean Magazine founder Kristen Philipkoski and San Francisco Bay Area media maven Lizzie Bermudez team up to discuss the realities of being 50 vis-a-vis the incredible Jennifer Lopez Super Bowl performance.
On one hand, it was empowering and inspiring to see a 50-year-old woman (along with a 40-something woman) enthrall a stadium packed with football fans. On the other hand, when we look in the mirror, we can’t help but notice some differences between us and JLO.
Also, why were so many people offended by her costumes, while other performers like Beyonce regularly gyrate on stage wearing very little clothing? More than 1,000 people have complained to the FCC that their children had to witness such a thing without warning. We’re scratching our heads because that guy from Maroon 5 was half naked last year.
Together it makes for some conflicted feelings. We discuss them all.
