Holiday parties? Get fabulous and festive like these 12 women over 50

Last Updated on December 10, 2019 by Kristen

Getting dressed for holiday parties is often preceded by stress-shopping, which often leads to spending more money than you’d planned—or purchasing something that you wear once and banish to the back of your closet when the party’s over.

Before you set foot in that department store or log on to your favorite shopping site, consider this: You probably already have something in your closet that will make the perfect outfit. It’s all about how you style it. Pile on the necklaces; don your biggest, blingiest earrings; combine colors, patters and pieces in a new way; and you may find you don’t need to shop at all.

Many of these women aren’t necessarily dressed for a holiday party, but their looks would look amazing at one. And they are all evidence that dressing up is never a bad idea, whether you’re 18 or 80.

Nineties supermodel Veronica Webb keeps it simple and sexy with wide-legged, shimmery pleated pants and a low-cut tank.

Green and red are not your only festive color choices. Jan de Villeneuve mixes unexpected colors, prints, and accessories like a pro and the result is holiday party perfection. And oh my gosh, those tights!

When it comes to sequins, there are definitely some unwritten “sparkle” rules that you have to follow in order to keep your look a little more glam and a little less holiday ornament-esque. Do: Keep it casual A sequin skirt can be perfect for a casual work day if you throw on a chunky sweater. Do:Throw a jacket Pair sequin dress with a leather or Camo jacket to toughen up the look So it’s time to give your little black dress the night off to and opt for this show stopping skirt . With a shimmering array of sequins, it catches the light for plenty of shine and outfits effortlessly with soft knits and lace blouses alike. Sequins may be an expected go-to for holiday parties, but this Anthropolgie stylist Roz keeps it casual and fun with a chunky sweater, equally chunky glasses, and a furry camo jacket.

Lyn of Accidental Icon pairs a sequin jacket with a sequin dress for the most bling possible, and why the F not.

Dr. Martens with pom poms? Over-the-top glasses? A voluminous skirt topped off with a metallic belt? Hell to the yes please. Do you this holiday season and make no apologies.

Diane Von Fursterberg in 1970 was as much a style icon as she is today. Black culottes, knee-high suede boots and piles of gold necklaces are always a good idea, and will come it particularly hand as a go-to outfit during the holiday season.

We’re not mad about more sequins, especially since they’re paired with leopard print, lace booties, and a red lip.

Tilda! If you need a break from the predictable holiday colors, try jewel tones like purple and emerald green for an unconventional festive vibe.

You can still wear your flannel and be party ready when you pair it with a fun skirt and fabulous boots.

A puff sleeve is instant fun. This velvet top with menswear-inspired wide-legged pants (with sneaks!) is a comfortable, ultra-cool outfit.

Red plaid is always appropriate during the holidays. Make it a comfy dress and you’re ready to party.

A monochromatic look, especially in head-to-toe burgundy like this one, is perfect for family gatherings or casual get-togethers. And what a joy would it be to wear sneakers and still feel put together?
